The BACKLINE Photozine was a project during my bachelors degree. The idea of the magazine was based on the early days fanzines which started back in the 90s where mostly punk kids tried to support their local band scene and were selling selfmade/copied magazines during their shows. I was already fascinated by the DIY character of these magazines and a huge fan of all kind of rock music. So I decided to make one on my own.
As I was looking threw my collection of fanzines I realized they were pretty limited in the music genres - mostly punk rock. That’s why I decided to make a magazine with a full aspect ratio of the rock music genre which is still supporting the local scene.
That’s when I packed my camera and started touring all over Germany photographing over 150 shows between 2018-2019. It was an unforgettable experience and a crazy year.
As a concert photographer I decided to create a photozine based on the idea: "You have to see it, if you want to believe it!" The goal was to visualize the concert experience. The BACKLINE Photozine includes interviews and photos of 6 chosen bands.
I also decided to focus one band by going on tour with them. After asking a few bands, some guys from Stuttgart gave me their permission to join them on tour. I spent ten days touring around Germany with the hardcore punk band MINUS YOUTH.
This Photozine is a documentation of my experience.
